Baan Rim Pa

Phuket restaurants

My favourite restaurant in Phuket is definitely Baan Rim Pa. I've been raving about it to everyone for the last fifteen years.

Baan Rim Pa has to be one of the most romantic restaurants in the world (to enhance the experience, make sure you ask for a table on one of the balconies overlooking the ocean).

Imagine a lazy breeze from the Andaman Sea blowing through the open-air balcony while you're watching a magnificent island sunset.

A selection of award winning Thai cuisine is bought to your table as you're sipping a tropical drink by candlelight.

Baan Rim Pa on a cliff overlooking Kalim Bay
This amazing restaurant is perched on a cliff overlooking Kalim Bay with the constant sound of waves breaking over the rocks below.

This is a class act... a gourmet restaurant offering the best of everything from the spectacular view and stylish decor, to the five star service and the delicious menu.

I thought of including the menu here but honestly... it's so extensive that I wouldn't know what to choose to tempt you.

It's all mouth watering!

You probably think I'm going a little overboard here but Baan Rim Pa really is that good.

It's been around for over 16 years now and I'm told it's well known with visitors all around the world. I'm not that surprised.

Tom McNamara - owner of Baan Rim Pa
I did a little checking up on the history of Baan Rim Pa and found out that the owner, Tom McNamara, previously owned and ran restaurants in New York, France, England, and the Caribbean.

He came to Phuket in 1988 to fish for marlin and decided to stay... like a lot of people who come here.

One of the reasons the food is so good at Baan Rim Pa is because Tom decided to use recipes that were originally only for the Thai Royal Family!

How's this for authenticity... he tracked down the descendants of the original chefs for past Thai Royal families.

Talk about attention to detail!

His home at the time was a two story teak house on a rocky outcrop overlooking Kalim Bay and it became host to lots of friends who visited to enjoy his recipes. This home was converted into the current restaurant and Baan Rim Pa was born.

When you come to Phuket... dining at Baan Rim Pa is a must.

A reservation is definitely necessary so make sure you call them on 0 7634 0789.

They're located at 223-223/1 Prabaramee Road Patong Beach (at the northern end). Just follow the road along Patong Beach in a northerly direction and as you begin to drive up a hill, you'll see the restaurant on the left side facing the ocean.
