My Favourite Phuket Restaurants... A Selection Of The Best

OK... you're in Phuket for a week or so. Do you want to spend your whole visit dining at the resort? Do you want to take your chances with the hundreds of Phuket restaurants to choose from?

Here's a few more things to consider about Phuket restaurants...

Don't want to miss the good spots? Worried about going over your budget? Not sure whether the service will be terrible? Didn't know the best items on the menu because you didn't know you could order them?

Confused?

Would you like me to narrow it down for you a little and give you some of my favourites?

Put it this way... I'd hate you to spend your whole visit here and not experience some of the best Phuket restaurants. The ones that only the people who live here, or regular visitors to Phuket, know about.

There are usually three reasons why a restaurant becomes a favourite of mine. They are the quality of the food, the calibre of the service, and the atmosphere or ambience which is usually dictated by the location, mood and decor.

If one of these characteristics is exceptional it can usually make up for a deficiency in one or two of the others. Rarely do you get all three at the same restaurant.

Having said that... I believe I have a Phuket restaurant for you that does achieve this. It's called Baan Rim Pa and the food, service and location are up there with the best. Find out more

My next choice is a small restaurant that I came across by pure chance. It excels in the service category mainly because the owner, Gianni, is able to attend to virtually every person in the restaurant personally.

Phuket restaurants - Gianni from La Gaetana decanting wine

The first time I met him it felt like we'd been friends for years.

The restaurant is called La Gaetana and you've probably guessed by now that the food is Italian.

I've never seen anyone, in any restaurant I've been to in the world, open a bottle of wine with as much style and ceremony as Gianni.

Your choice of wine is personally attended to by him, accompanied by a selection of what look like dental instruments but are actually crafted for opening wine... it's quite an experience to watch!

I never knew that taking a cork out of a bottle of wine was so complicated. Gianni even has the first taste to make sure that you'll enjoy your selection.

You'll be glad to know that the food is also exceptional and the mood is intimate, candlelit, and in character.

This is only a small restaurant so make sure you've made a booking before you go. I'd hate you to miss out!

Phuket restaurants - Mom Tri's Kitchen

Another restaurant that is absolutely exceptional in all three categories is called Mom Tri's Kitchen.

It's part of the Villa Royale resort at Kata Noi and I'd say it's alongside Baan Rim Pa as one of the best Phuket restaurants.

Once again it began as a residence of the owner, renowned architect ML Tri Devakul. The setting is also on a cliff overlooking the sea with the sound of waves crashing below.

I mean... just look at that view!

This is one of those restaurants that make you think how lucky you are to be alive... you find yourself spending a few moments in quiet contemplation just trying to absorb the atmosphere and perhaps experiencing one of those deep breaths when you're somewhere special.
