Naturist Beach In Phuket

Naturist Beach

NudistFriends.com – the largest nudist personals site!

“What web site on beaches would be complete without some mention of a naturist beach in Phuket? Nude beaches are appearing all over the world and pressure is on to have naturism recognized in Phuket”.

What is naturism?

Also called nudism, it’s the practice of going nude in a communal (non sexual) setting.

It’s more than a practice, it’s a complete movement of wholesomeness and stability of mind and body with complete contact with natural elements like sun and water, as nature intended.

Nudists believe that the human body is nothing to be ashamed of, being something that we all possess and ought to cherish. Consequently, nudists participate in various social activities in the nude such as sunbathing and sports.

Naturists in Thailand?

Everyone knows Thailand is famous for it’s sex industry, but what most people don’t know is that the general population of Thailand is quite modest and conservative.

As a result, nude beaches in Thailand are technically illegal and as a result I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to find a selection of good places to recommend to you.

Having said that, there are a few places where you can get away with nude bathing. I guess it’s more to do with not offending the locals rather than breaking the law.

There are a couple of reasons why the locals may not be offended.

One is that it’s so common in certain areas that the locals have become used to it. This is usually in places where there are a lot of western tourists such as Europeans, Americans and Australians, who are quite comfortable wearing very little on the beach.

The other reason why locals won’t be offended is because there are no locals around to be offended! In other words the beach is pretty isolated and the locals rarely go there. These places are definitely not “designated” naturism beaches but you’re unlikely to be spotted there.

An example of one of these isolated beaches in Phuket is Mai Khao Beach. Here’s a posting I found on a blog about a naturist beach in Phuket, written by a French tourist…

“I have been to Thailand many times and several times to Phuket for vacation. As I cannot stand a bathing suit to stay on a beach, I have been looking for deserted beaches where naturism could be possible. So, I know where one (beach) where this is possible. You just need ground transportation to get there, no boat. During the week, there are very few Thai people there, you might see some, but they don’t care about you if you don’t wear a bathing suit. Just beware of thieves… there is a village in the vicinity… two times, the mirrors on my motorbike disappeared.

I would like this beach to stay clean and quiet, so I hesitate to say where it is. But, in another way, it would be good that this island (Phuket) gets started with naturism, and when you are the only nude on the beach, you don’t feel so good regarding local people. So this beach (on Phuket) is Mai Kao Beach and is located at the north west top of the island. We could make this place a peaceful paradise for nudist. I have not been there for a couple of years so the place may have changed since my last visit”.

If you want to venture out of Phuket, I’ve found out that Koh Phangan is one of those beaches that fits the category where the locals are used to tourists wearing very little at the beach so they’re not readily offended.

Koh Phangan is an island in the Gulf of Thailand about 12 miles north of Koh Samui. Every month they have a full moon festival which is the main reason why up to ten thousand visitors arrive each month.

On Koh Phangan is a beach called Leela Beach which has around 70 bungalows on 15 acres of land. It’s very private and isolated enough for nude bathing… at least isolated enough that the locals don’t know or care.

I’m on the lookout for other beaches that are suitable for nude swimming so if you happen to know of any yourself… please contact me

I’ll put the details up on the web site for anyone interested in naturism. Remember though… nude bathing is illegal in Thailand. If you go ahead anyway, just make sure you don’t offend the locals.

And lastly… if you happen to be visiting a naturist beach for the first time, take a moment to review the naturism glossary of terms and ettiquette
